Red Bull ‘Spot Check’, Cape Town 2025

Red Bull Spot Check, Cape Town 2025

This was hand-down one of the wildest days in SA skateboarding to date. The good folks at Red Bull brought the Spot Check concept to Cape Town along with Zion Wright, Jamie Foy, Ryan Sheckler, CJ Collins, Chloe Covell, Gavin Bottger and one of SA’s finest, Brandon Valjalo. The concept for the day was to hit 4 iconic spots in Cape Town that generally are not friendly to skateboarders on any given day.

CITY BOWL PARK

Starting from the most scenic bowl in the world, City Bowl Park, that just installed a crazy rainbow rail and personlised run up for Sheckler to take the dive from the roof – What a way to kick the day off!

Ryan taking the plunge

Saeed. Waggie shutting the rainbow rail down witha front Smith – The one clip that all 4 camera men missed! At least Grant got it!

Marci Rodriques Backside Noseblunts on the world highest slappy curb

Ethan Cairns breaking the ice on the Rainbow rail

Chloe Covell testing the Rainbow out

Company Gardens

If you want to make your mark on the Cape Town scene, you’d better have Company Gardens on your list. Seeing that only about 5 tricks are on the list for the Big 5 Block, it was insane to see Moses and Zion tick off two of the sickest NBDs – varial heel and back 360.

Moses Adams blew minds with this varial Heelflip!

Marci Rodriques – 4 Block Kickflip

Tyresse Adams loves a cash-for-trick event and never dissapoints – Impossible from the 4th Block

Choms Chloe, Jamie & CJ itching to  give out them BL vouchers

Cruising to Thibault Square

Thibault Square

After a heavy jumping sesh we headed to Thibault Square for a mellow picnic bench jam, the perfect way to stack some BL cash while recovering for the grand finale

Welcome to Thibault Square

Ashton Banwell – BS180 Nosegrind (SW HF out)

Saeed Waggie has the best kickflip crooks in the business

Marcel vd Walt duted off his board for a rad day out in the streets – BSTS

Civic Centre

Civic centre is the closest thing Cape Town has to Love Park, a public space with amble space and obstacles for skaters to hang out and skate at, if you don’t  get chased away with all the other junkies. Shout out to Red Bull for including Civic Centre.

On arrival the crowd was treated to Byron Rhoda attempting to ollie the infamous Civic double set, a first for a South African. After a few tries Byron rode away with a crowd going mental, only to be backed up by Ryan Sheckler ,aking the distance on his first try – You could probably hear the crowd errupt in Joburg – a massive moment in SA skateboarding.
