Vans 50th Anniversary Celebration
House of Vans Cape Town // 16th – 19th March 2016
Since 1966, Vans has equaled creative expression. To celebrate 50 years of living “off the wall”, the Vans Family is bringing the House of Vans around the world. Cape Town has been selected to host one of ten Vans’ 50 Year Anniversary global celebrations with an incredible line up of music, art, street culture, and skateboarding. The event kicks off on Vans’ birthday on 16th March, and for four days, will deliver an incredible line-up of events and activities.
The Daylight Studios at Bree Street Studios will undergo a dramatic transformation into a pop-up House of Vans Cape Town. Stilo Magolide heads up opening night with a live performance. Over the four days, the venue will host some of the biggest names in South African music through Vans’ partnership with Psych Night and other local artists.
Beyond the music line up, a 50th Anniversary art exhibition will be on display throughout the event, featuring a live art installation. Guests will have the opportunity to leave their mark on House of Vans Cape Town as the brand celebrates its heritage and history. Starting on Thursday 17th, those that are feeling creative can walk away with their own keepsakes with an entire day of workshops for one and all.
On Friday 18th, the venue will host a movie premiere for Vans Parallel Skate Documentary – a South African skate project that showcases the Vans Skate team’s recent tour to remote skate spots around the country. Saturday 19th will feature a skate contest at a nearby location, followed by a closing celebration at the House of Vans Cape Town venue.
